Microsoft is testing a plan to integrate features similar to OpenClaw, an open-source AI agent tool, into its existing Microsoft 365 Copilot, TechCrunch reported on April 13, citing The Information.
Microsoft aims to provide enterprise agents to corporate customers with stronger security controls than OpenClaw.
Microsoft previously announced in March Copilot Cowork, an AI agent that carries out real tasks in Microsoft 365 apps. Copilot Cowork is based on Anthropic's Claude and runs in the cloud.
In February, Microsoft also previewed Copilot Tasks, which handles various jobs such as organizing email and managing travel and schedules.
A key feature of the new agent is that it runs continuously and can complete multi-step tasks over long periods. It is not yet confirmed whether it will run locally or be cloud-based, TechCrunch reported.
OpenClaw can run in a Windows environment, but many users run it on Apple's Mac Mini. Demand for small, low-cost Mac Minis has also surged suddenly in connection with this. An analysis says Microsoft moving directly to develop an agent similar to OpenClaw is also related to this.
Microsoft will unveil the new agent or an upgraded version of an existing agent at its Build conference in June, The Verge reported.
