[DigitalToday reporter Dae-geon Seok (석대건)] Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday it obtained carbon certification from Germany's TUV Rheinland for 34 models of its 2026 TVs and soundbars. Fourteen models, including OLED and The Frame Pro TVs and soundbars, received Product Carbon Reduction certification. Twenty models, including Micro RGB TVs and MiniLED TVs, received carbon footprint certification.
TUV Rheinland assesses greenhouse gas emissions across the full product life cycle, from manufacturing and transportation to use and disposal, based on its own standards and grants carbon footprint certification. It additionally awards Product Carbon Reduction certification to products with lower carbon emissions than existing models in the same class.
Samsung Electronics expanded its range of certified products to include QLED, OLED, lifestyle TVs, monitors and signage after its Neo QLED TV in 2021 became the first TV with 4K or higher resolution to receive Product Carbon Reduction certification. This year it secured certifications focused on premium models such as Micro RGB, OLED and The Frame Pro.
The 2026 Q990H soundbar, in particular, obtained both carbon footprint and Product Carbon Reduction certifications. It is the first case of expanding carbon neutrality efforts, which had been focused on TVs, to other product categories such as soundbars.
Tae-yong Son (손태용), a vice president at Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business, said, "As the No. 1 company leading the global TV market, Samsung Electronics will take the lead in carbon neutrality across the full life cycle of our products to create a better future, as well as deliver overwhelming picture-quality technology."
