Argentina has ordered a nationwide block on crypto-based prediction market Polymarket after treating it as an illegal gambling platform, Coindesk reported on Tuesday.

The move followed a ruling by a Buenos Aires court that the platform operated without local approval and posed gambling-related risks, Coindesk said.

Under the ruling, internet providers in Argentina must block access to all domains related to Polymarket. Apple and Google must also restrict local users from downloading the app. Argentina's telecommunications regulator ENACOM will enforce the measures.

Buenos Aires lottery authority LOTBA and casino industry group CASCBA led the push for the measures, and prosecutors argue Polymarket is a gambling platform disguised as a prediction market, Coindesk said.

Polymarket has already been blocked in about 30 countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Australia and Poland.
