Net outflows from bitcoin and ether spot exchange-traded funds totalled $549 million last week.

Cointelegraph, a blockchain media outlet, reported on Oct. 19 that about $229 million left bitcoin spot ETFs and about $320 million left ether spot ETFs.

Bitcoin spot ETFs posted net outflows for 2 straight weeks, and ether ETFs for 3 straight weeks. Outflows for the two product groups eased from $1.22 billion the previous week.

Outflows from ether spot ETFs were particularly pronounced. Ether spot ETFs have recorded net outflows of about $955 million so far in October. That is the biggest monthly outflow this year.

Prices also weakened. Ether fell about 3.20 percent over the past 7 days to $2,405, and bitcoin slipped 0.66 percent to around $81,975. With outflows and price corrections overlapping over the same period, sentiment among major cryptocurrency investors also appears to have softened somewhat.

On a year-to-date basis, the cumulative flow remains positive. Bitcoin spot ETFs have recorded about $259 million of net inflows this year, and ether spot ETFs are also still showing net inflows of about $610 million. Funds have left in recent weeks, but the overall flow since the start of the year has not turned into net outflows.

Outflows also continued from major altcoin ETFs. Solana spot ETFs saw net outflows of about $26 million last week, while Zcash recorded $19 million and Hyperliquid $18 million. Funds linked to XRP and BNB also saw net outflows of $1.8 million and $285,000, respectively.

The trend shows weaker appetite for risk assets across major cryptocurrency ETFs. Bitcoin spot ETFs moved into a loss zone for a second straight week, while ether spot ETFs faced relatively greater selling pressure after 3 straight weeks of outflows. Weekly outflows themselves fell from the prior week, indicating the pace of investor departures has not become steeper.

The market's next point of focus is whether monthly net outflows from ether spot ETFs will exceed $1 billion. Whether bitcoin spot ETFs can break the run of consecutive net outflows also remains a key short-term supply-and-demand variable.
