[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Mastercard has rolled out a security service that filters risks of fraud and sanctions violations around stablecoin payments in advance, The Block reported on Oct. 19 (local time).

According to the report, Mastercard unveiled "Stablecoin Security" at the U.S. fintech event Money20/20 USA. Stablecoin Security supports financial institutions in checking risk before stablecoins actually move on a blockchain.

Stablecoin Security tracks the source of funds and determines whether there are links to financial crimes such as fraud, scams and sanctions violations. It also assigns a risk score based on transaction context. Mastercard provides this information via an API. Banks can add it directly to their existing fraud-prevention and regulatory compliance systems.

Ann Johnson (앤 존슨), executive vice president for Mastercard's security solutions business, said, "Stablecoins are opening up a new way to exchange value." She said, "Financial institutions need accurate information and control tools to participate with confidence."

Mastercard also cited findings from a Bank for International Settlements (BIS) study that analysed 593 million stablecoin transfers included in 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025. Of these, nearly 60 percent were complex transactions involving multiple steps rather than simple one-to-one remittances.

Mastercard is also expanding its stablecoin business. In August, it completed the acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK. Last week, it introduced a "Global Money Platform" that fully integrates BVNK. It plans to incorporate BVNK into Stablecoin Security next year.

The Stablecoin Security service will be launched first in the North American market. A global commercial service is scheduled to be introduced in 2027.
