Even among pro-Ripple figures, views are diverging over XRP's weak price performance.

On Oct. 19, blockchain media outlet Decrypt reported that lawyer Bill Morgan (빌 모건) said XRP remains weak even after the lawsuit with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ended, making it hard to keep citing the case as the reason for price weakness.

In a post on X, Morgan said XRP fell 45 percent over the past 12 months and dropped about 60 percent since Aug. 7, 2025, when the SEC case was wrapped up. "You can't use the lawsuit as an excuse for XRP's current price. That excuse is now quite old," he wrote.

Morgan acknowledged that XRP rose in the short term whenever positive news related to the lawsuit emerged. He said the gains did not last and most of the rise was later erased, adding that the lawsuit was overly highlighted as grounds for explaining the price weakness. He stressed that even the end of the case did not lead to a sustained price increase.

XRP was above $3.6 on July 2025, but by August that year, when the lawsuit was concluded, it had already begun giving back gains and continued to weaken. Morgan said expectations of a settlement may have had a bigger impact on the price rise in the months before the conclusion, but he assessed that a significant portion of those gains has also disappeared.

That view runs counter to other perspectives within the XRP community. One X user said XRP was the only major cryptocurrency to endure an SEC lawsuit for five years, arguing the dispute put XRP in a disadvantageous position versus other large cryptocurrencies. The user said XRP had been on a trajectory of chasing bitcoin after previously surpassing ethereum, but the rally was broken when the legal attack began.

The user also mentioned conversations with Ripple officials at Evernorth's listing event held at Nasdaq, writing, "All obstacles have been removed." The comment meant legal hurdles, including the lawsuit, had been cleared.

A price recovery is still not clear. Based on the cited figures at the time, XRP traded around $1.33, about 62.5 percent below its January 2018 peak. By contrast, some major cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin and ethereum, are trading well above their 2017 to 2018 peaks.

Ultimately, the central issue behind XRP's weakness is the impact of the SEC lawsuit on its price. Digital Asset Investor sees the prolonged legal dispute as having constrained XRP's growth, while Morgan argues that regulatory uncertainty alone cannot explain the current weakness given that no rebound followed even after the lawsuit ended.
