Bitcoin recorded about $1.03 billion in daily profit-taking after it moved above the $87,000 range. On Oct. 9, CoinPost reported that on-chain analytics firm Santiment said realised Bitcoin profits reached about $1.03 billion per day earlier this month.

The figure fell just short of this year’s high of about $1.04 billion in 2026. It was the second-largest this year. Santiment viewed it as profit-taking that emerged as Bitcoin rose to the $87,000 range. Bitcoin later fell to the $81,000 range.

Realised profit and loss is an indicator that tallies the gains and losses investors have actually locked in, based on Bitcoin moved on-chain. It is calculated from the difference between the price at the previous transfer and the price at the current transfer. It is used to track selling-side moves that are hard to confirm from price action alone.

Santiment explained that sharp jumps in realised profits often coincide with market cooling in the short- to mid-term period. It said profit-taking can increase selling pressure, and falling prices can trigger additional selling or the unwinding of leveraged positions.

Santiment said the latest figure does not guarantee a major reversal. It said profit-taking of $1.03 billion was a clear sign that Bitcoin’s recent upswing had been put to the test.
