[DigitalToday intern reporter Seung-a Yoo] A 4chan post that accurately predicted the timing of bitcoin’s all-time high on Oct. 6, 2025 is again drawing attention after identifying Oct. 5, 2026 as the low of the current cycle. It is the result of applying the same date intervals between peaks and troughs seen in past market cycles.

Decrypt, a blockchain media outlet, reported on Oct. 5, local time, that a 4chan user SBC7H7La posted a prediction on Dec. 12, 2023 that bitcoin’s next market peak would form on Oct. 6, 2025. The author focused on the fact that in the previous two cycles it took 1,064 days from trough to peak and 364 days from peak to trough. The calculation was that the same pattern would repeat in the next cycle because it appeared twice in a row.

Bitcoin in fact rose to $126,198.07 on Oct. 6, 2025, setting an all-time high. As a result, the date presented in the post matched the actual peak.

This time, the same method was applied to predicting a trough. Adding 364 days to Oct. 6, 2025 yields Oct. 5, 2026. Under the post’s logic, that means Oct. 5 is the low of the current cycle.

As of the morning of Oct. 6 in Korea time, bitcoin is trading around $86,100. That is about 32 percent below its record high. Bitcoin fell to around $57,000 in July, and the current price is about 50 percent higher than the low at that time.

Bitcoin at one point in late June fell to a level 52 percent below its record high. At the time, digital asset manager 21Shares assessed that the scale of the decline was milder than bear markets of more than 80 percent seen in past cycles.

Recent price gains were also influenced by U.S. jobs data. New U.S. jobs in September rose by only 29,000, far below the market forecast of 90,000. As a slowdown in the labour market was confirmed, expectations grew that the Federal Reserve would be less likely to move toward additional rate hikes, and an analysis emerged that this could be favourable for risk assets such as bitcoin.

Even so, it is difficult to judge bitcoin’s bottom based only on 4chan’s date pattern. Benjamin Cowen (벤저민 코웬), a cryptocurrency analyst, said an accumulation phase began on July 1 but left open the possibility of further declines. Cowen suggested the possibility of one more drop in the fourth quarter and forecast the downside could fall to around $44,000.

It has not yet been confirmed whether 4chan’s prediction, which accurately pinpointed the peak date in 2025, will prove correct again. Still, it is drawing market attention because it identified Oct. 5 as the low of the current cycle based on the date interval between past peaks and troughs.
