Russia's stock exchange Moscow Exchange (MOEX) is expanding trading in cryptocurrency derivatives, including XRP.
On Sept. 17, blockchain media outlet The Crypto Basic reported that MOEX will begin trading new futures products linked to indices for XRP, bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), solana (SOL) and tron (TRX) from Sept. 22.
The products apply an automatically rolling structure to daily-settled futures with a one-day maturity. The exchange said it will operate them as daily settlement futures and extend them automatically. The trading code for the XRP-linked product is XRPUSDF, and the benchmark index is MOEXXRP.
The key point is that the products are not physically delivered. Investors do not actually receive XRP or other cryptocurrencies. Contract values are quoted in U.S. dollars, but cash settlement is made in Russian roubles. As a result, market participants are exposed only to price movements in the underlying index and do not hold the digital asset itself.
Eligible participants are also limited. MOEX said the products are not for all retail investors and are exclusively for qualified investors. It is keeping an access route open through regulated derivatives rather than direct crypto holdings, while setting a narrow participation scope.
The expansion follows MOEX's initial introduction of crypto-linked futures in the summer of 2025. The exchange said that since then, the number of qualified investors who participated in crypto-related futures trading has exceeded 72,000 and cumulative trading volume has topped 600 billion roubles (about 9.82 trillion won). It said demand was reflected in expanding the lineup beyond bitcoin and ether to include XRP, solana and tron.
XRP in particular has secured an additional trading channel in the regulated derivatives market through this listing. But the trade does not carry the same meaning as directly buying on the spot market. Since the contracts are designed for cash settlement, it is difficult to view rising futures trading as leading immediately to increased spot buying of XRP.
MOEX's move aligns with a trend toward diversifying index-based ways to gain crypto exposure. The exchange is expanding benchmarks beyond bitcoin and ether to major digital assets more broadly. As a result, market attention is expected to focus on how trading volume, open interest and investor participation take shape after trading begins on Sept. 22.
