Loopring, Ethereum\'s first zk-rollup, closes decentralised exchange
Loopring, described as Ethereum\'s first zk-rollup project, has closed its decentralised exchange service, The Block reported. The project said it lacked a virtual machine, preventing composability and real payment use cases, which limited ecosystem growth. It also acknowledged its zkEVM architecture lagged newer solutions fully compatible with Ethereum smart contracts. Loopring said it will refund users directly and cover all transaction fees, and will later restrict Layer 2 withdrawals to team-controlled whitelisted addresses after an upgrade.

Ethereum Foundation wraps up reorganisation, shifts focus to protocol and institutional support
The Ethereum Foundation has completed a months-long reorganisation and cut 54 staff, about 20 percent of its workforce. It has restructured around five domain clusters and will focus on strengthening the protocol and supporting the ecosystem. The new structure adds an operations cluster and teams reporting directly to management, with separate internal structures and performance metrics for each cluster. Severance is set at the higher of a tenure-based formula or local legal standards.

Ethereum announces 2026 protocol priorities; impact on ETH price in focus
The Ethereum Foundation announced protocol priorities for 2026 and unveiled a strategy to expand the network and bolster security. The plan was released amid a market in which Ether has fallen more than 33 percent, raising interest in whether technical upgrades could lead to a price recovery. Ethereum set scaling, user experience and security as key goals, including expanding the Layer 1 gas limit, commercialising a zkEVM proof prototype and strengthening account abstraction via EIP-7701 and EIP-8141.
