[Digital Today AI Reporter] The Ethereum Foundation announced protocol priorities for 2026 and unveiled a strategy aimed at expanding the network and strengthening security.
On Feb. 19, blockchain outlet BeInCrypto reported that the roadmap was released in market conditions in which Ethereum has fallen more than 33 percent, drawing attention to whether technical improvements will lead to a price rebound.
Ethereum set network scaling, user experience improvements and stronger security as key goals for this year. It is prioritising scaling efforts, including expanding the Layer 1 gas limit to more than 100 million and commercialising a zkEVM proof prototype.
It also plans to strengthen account abstraction through EIP-7701 and EIP-8141, which embed smart account logic directly into the network. These changes are expected to strengthen security against quantum computing and accelerate cross-L2 interactions.
On security, it will strengthen protection against quantum computing through an "L1 reinforcement track" and push forward censorship-resistance research and the expansion of test infrastructure. It also plans to shorten the network upgrade cycle to increase flexibility.
