Ministry silos hobble K-media, calls grow for pan-government national strategy committee
A claim was raised that South Korea urgently needs a pan-government committee to integrate and coordinate scattered media policies to turn K-content’s global achievements into domestic industrial competitiveness. At a National Assembly forum, Kyung Hee University professor Sang-won Lee (이상원) said ministry separation has left no media policy control tower. Participants cited widening gaps in broadcasting and advertising and proposed creating a national strategy committee and establishing a 1 trillion to 2 trillion won fund.

South Korea technology trade tops $40 billion for first time; exports and imports hit records
South Korea’s technology trade totalled $40.57 billion in 2024, up $1.97 billion from the previous year and passing $40 billion for the first time, the Ministry of Science and ICT said on Thursday. Technology exports rose 4.1 percent to $18.36 billion and technology imports increased 6.0 percent to $22.21 billion, both record highs. The United States was the largest partner, while China posted the biggest surplus.
