U.S. Treasury doubles long-term bond buybacks, sending yields down and lifting bitcoin and ether
Bitcoin and ether jumped after the U.S. Treasury said it would double the maximum size of liquidity-support buybacks for 10 to 30-year bonds. The announcement pushed long-dated Treasury yields sharply lower, narrowing the gap between 2-year and 30-year yields and sparking buying across risk assets. CoinGlass data showed more than $1.2 billion of crypto positions were liquidated within an hour, largely in bitcoin and ether.

Anthropic appoints former Fed chair Bernanke to AI oversight body
Anthropic has appointed former U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke to its independent governance body, the Long-Term Public Benefit Trust. As a member of the trust, Bernanke will help the company understand how AI changes the economy. The trust advises the company and is involved in board composition. Anthropic said Bernanke will review AI’s economic effects and support long-term decision-making.
