PIPC holds briefing on guidelines for writing privacy policies, shares revisions
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission held a briefing on April 28 to share key points of the revised guidelines for writing privacy policies it released on April 24. The commission also provided guidance on updated privacy policy guidelines, standards for handling pseudonymised data and personal data processing in generative AI services. It said the event focused on helping people better understand how their data is handled and supporting on-site application of the new standards.

Korea media communications review committee appoints 5 members to defamation dispute mediation panel
The Korea Broadcasting, Media and Communications Review Committee said on April 28 it appointed five experts, including Kim Jun-hyeon, to its defamation dispute mediation panel. The panel is an alternative dispute resolution body that mediates conflicts over online information that infringes others’ rights, such as privacy violations or defamation. Users can apply for mediation through the committee’s internet damage relief website and may request user information when identification is difficult.

54 public bodies win S grade in 2025 personal data protection assessment
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission said 54 public institutions won the top S grade in its 2025 assessment of personal data protection levels covering 1,442 public bodies. The average total score was 76.5 points, and 342 institutions received a B grade, the largest group. By type, state-run firms and quasi-government agencies scored highest on average, while basic local governments scored lowest.
