Brokerages cut domestic branches and step up global push
South Korean brokerages are accelerating overseas expansion as mobile trading prompts further streamlining of domestic branches. As of end-2025, 16 firms operated 93 overseas outlets, up by 13 from a year earlier, while overseas subsidiaries’ net profit rose 67.8 percent. Domestic branches at the top 10 brokerages slipped to 438 as of March 31. Firms are widening foreign omnibus account services and building networks across the United States, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and India.

Korean retail investors turn net buyers of U.S. stocks after 3 months on SpaceX listing
Korean retail investors in U.S. stocks turned net buyers in June for the first time in three months, Korea Securities Depository data showed. They recorded net purchases of $233.66 million, with $1.10468 billion bought and $871.01 million sold. The shift followed net selling in April and May. Buying was led by SpaceX, with $1.89307 billion purchased in June, while semiconductor-related names also drew inflows.

Shinhan Financial Group has overhauled its super app strategy into a banking-app-based one-app structure, combining Shinhan SOL Bank and Shinhan Super SOL. It unveiled the integrated platform on Tuesday, shifting from linking affiliate functions to placing banking, securities, card and insurance services in a single app. The group also introduced SOL LINK, combining deposits and stock trading, and added AI-based support and lifestyle content.
