Korea Internet Companies Association calls for impact review from design stage of digital industry regulation
The Korea Internet Companies Association published its 2025 Internet Industry Regulation White Paper on Tuesday, analysing South Korea\'s digital industry and regulatory environment. It said 2024 internet industry revenue rose 9.0 percent to 718.8 trillion won, about 28 percent of nominal GDP, while employment climbed 9.2 percent to 2,167,000. The group said many bills had unclear regulatory definitions and urged early-stage reviews of industry impact, technological change and consistency with existing rules.

Lee Chan-jin says Bithumb mispayment case confirms internal controls flaws, sanctions review begins
Lee Chan-jin (이찬진), head of South Korea\'s Financial Supervisory Service, said the watchdog has completed inspection procedures into Bithumb\'s bitcoin mispayment case and will pursue sanctions after additional legal review of possible violations of the Virtual Asset User Protection Act. He said inspectors found flaws in internal controls and that broader institutional improvements for the digital asset market are being prepared. He added checks were also conducted at four other exchanges.

Legislative Research Service calls for \'free viewing\' clause in Broadcasting Act, urgent universal access overhaul
South Korea\'s National Assembly Legislative Research Service called for a redesign of the universal viewing rights system following controversy over exclusive Olympic broadcast rights. It said the Broadcasting Act should explicitly state that eligible events must be viewable \"at no additional cost,\" so people without pay-TV or OTT subscriptions can watch. It also raised the need to expand the scope of designated events and rework the channel-based system to include online platforms and services.
