More financial firms to face margin rules for non-cleared OTC derivatives from September
South Korea\'s Financial Supervisory Service will extend its guidelines on the margin exchange system for non-cleared over-the-counter derivatives transactions. From September, the number of firms subject to initial margin requirements will rise to 143 from 138, while those covered by variation margin requirements will increase to 165 from 163. The guidelines will be extended for one year. The FSS said it will keep checking compliance and gather difficulties financial firms face.

Strive buys 147 more bitcoin, ranks 7th among corporate holders
Asset manager Strive kept buying bitcoin despite posting a large second-quarter net loss, raising its total holdings to 20,167 bitcoin. The company said it added 147 bitcoin to its digital asset treasury reserve and reported a second-quarter net loss of $257.6 million, citing a fall in bitcoin prices during the quarter. Strive said it repaid all short- and long-term debt and had no outstanding loans as of Aug. 7.

Single-stock leverage ETF margin raised to 30 million won from July 31
South Korea will bring forward measures to raise the basic margin requirement for single-stock leveraged products, including leveraged ETFs linked to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, from July 31. The Financial Services Commission will raise the requirement from 10 million won to 30 million won in cash for new trades or additional purchases. It will also restrict margin reductions by brokerages and tighten rules on recognising sale proceeds and substitute securities.
