Dockpamo phase 2 shows usability decisive as project to be reshaped into frontier AI after final two teams selected

South Korea’s second-stage evaluation for the government’s independent AI foundation model project found usability and potential industrial and service application were decisive. Motif Technologies was eliminated despite leading global benchmarks, while Upstage, SK Telecom and LG AI Research advanced on strengths such as commercial deployment plans, industrial demonstrations and ecosystem expansion. The government will hold a third-stage contest to pick two final teams, but has not set detailed criteria or schedule and is reviewing 2027 support plans linked to a frontier AI model programme.

LG AI Research says K-EXAONE passes second-stage evaluation of independent AI foundation model project

LG AI Research said its K-EXAONE passed the second-stage evaluation of the Ministry of Science and ICT-led independent AI foundation model project on Tuesday. It said the result helps lay the groundwork to develop a flagship-scale, ultra-large foundation model that can compete in global markets. The institute said the evaluation is meaningful because it secured technology to train and operate very large models stably while improving response quality and usability performance.

Dokpamo phase 2 to assess agentic AI, allow tool calls in expert review

As competition among large language models shifts from simple question-and-answer to agentic AI that uses external tools and data, attention is growing on how the government’s “independent AI foundation model” project evaluates such capabilities. The second-phase Dokpamo evaluation keeps benchmark, expert and user reviews, but splits user testing into professional users and 200 members of the public.
