Face payment gains traction as Naver Pay, Toss intensify infrastructure race

Competition in offline payment terminals is heating up as face payment draws attention and spreads, prompting Naver Pay and Toss to race to expand merchant networks. Naver Pay is pushing its Npay Connect terminal, linking payments to reviews, coupons and other services, and says installations have surpassed 100,000 stores. Toss is expanding FacePay use cases with its Toss Front terminal, citing growth to over 6 million registered users and widening partnerships and events.

Toss launches Toss One Shinhan Card tailored for FacePay

Viva Republica, operator of South Korean fintech app Toss, has launched a co-branded credit card with Shinhan Card for users of its FacePay facial payment service. The Toss One Shinhan Card offers discounts across everyday spending such as cafes, restaurants and convenience stores, with higher discounts when paying via FacePay or at Toss Front terminals. It also provides Toss Prime free for two months and support for fees under certain conditions.
