NH NongHyup Bank has piloted an integrated authentication terminal, the 'AI Smart Pad', using AI facial authentication technology, at 100 branches nationwide.
NH NongHyup Bank said on Aug. 24 it introduced the 'AI Smart Pad' at 100 branches nationwide to improve customer convenience and strengthen security.
The AI Smart Pad is a terminal that upgrades the password-entry function of existing PIN pads. It uses AI facial authentication technology to verify a customer's identity in face-to-face transactions that require real-name checks.
It also includes a universal scanner that can recognise various formats of identification, including passports. This is designed to simplify identity verification procedures and enable checks on the authenticity of IDs.
After the pilot operation, the bank plans to link the system with mobile IDs and gradually expand the number of branches and the scope of operations where it is used.
Kim Yong-hwan (김용환), head of the bank's Process Innovation Department, said, "By upgrading an AI-based identity verification system, we have laid the foundation to prevent financial incidents in advance."
