XRP origin dispute: Ripple former CTO says real start was 2012
David Schwartz, former chief technology officer of Ripple, drew a line under a long-running dispute over XRP’s origins, rejecting claims that XRP was created before bitcoin or that Canadian programmer Ryan Fugger was its founder. Schwartz said XRP’s history began in 2012, after Chris Larsen and Jed McCaleb acquired RipplePay and the OpenCoin team rebuilt the technology. Others also dismissed attempts to link a 1988 U.S. patent filed by Schwartz to XRP.

Former BIS head who targeted stablecoins signals shift, says they should coexist with fiat money

Analysts say the BIS stance has not changed, as it continues to warn of trust and stability risks.

Swift warns of key ISO 20022 deadline as Ripple seen already prepared
Swift has warned it will no longer allow free-form, unstructured postal addresses in cross-border payment messages from November 2026, saying non-compliant payments may be delayed or rejected. The change applies to its CBPR+ framework and requires structured sender and recipient address data. Swift described the move as an industry-agreed evolution of standards. The announcement has drawn attention to Ripple and XRP, though industry figures stress ISO 20022 is a messaging standard, not a payment service.
