NH Investment Securities is joining hands with Koscom to build a tokenised securities (STO) platform and find business models. It will also review the possibility of tokenising not only real assets but also standard securities such as bonds.

NH Investment Securities said on Aug. 13 it signed an MOU with Koscom on Aug. 12 to push forward a tokenised securities platform business.

The agreement was designed to secure related business capabilities ahead of the enforcement of laws related to the institutionalisation of tokenised securities in February 2027 and to prepare business models that can be connected to actual products and customer services.

The two companies plan to proceed in stages with cooperation on the tokenised securities platform and distributed ledger technology, a review of ways to jointly use a platform, the discovery of underlying assets and business models suitable for tokenised securities, and technical verification before launching services.

NH Investment Securities will use cooperation with Koscom to check the technical requirements needed for the tokenised securities business and ways to link with existing securities back-office systems. It plans to verify whether distributed ledger technology can be applied to actual securities operations to lay a foundation for commercialisation after the system takes effect.

The agreement will also be used as an opportunity to examine whether tokenisation technology can be applied to standard securities such as bonds. The company plans to analyse key procedures from product issuance to rights management and redemption to verify the feasibility of a standard-securities-based tokenised securities business model and prepare specific commercialisation plans.

Baek Kwang-soo (배광수), chief executive of NH Investment Securities, said, "We will work with Koscom to proactively verify the infrastructure and business processes needed for the tokenised securities business and find business opportunities that can expand our capital market capabilities into digital-based financial services."
