The Korea Financial Investment Association and chief executives of South Korean securities firms are visiting Germany and Luxembourg to seek investment opportunities and global cooperation in new growth sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital finance and the space industry.
The association said on Sept. 7 that a delegation dubbed Securities NPK (New Portfolio Korea), led by Chairman Sungyup Hwang (황성엽) and made up of CEOs from 14 securities companies, will visit Germany and Luxembourg from Sept. 6 to 12.
The delegation will start by attending IFA 2026, a European consumer electronics and technology exhibition in Berlin. It plans to review the commercialization status of advanced technologies such as AI, smart homes, robotics and digital healthcare, as well as changes in business models across related industries.
It will also assess the commercialization level and market scalability of on-device AI, humanoid and physical AI, and next-generation mobility. Based on that, it plans to identify new investment themes the domestic securities industry can use amid changes in related industry value chains.
In Luxembourg, it will meet Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and Trade Minister Xavier Bettel to discuss ways to expand cooperation in financial investment between the two countries.
The delegation also plans to visit the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA), the European Space Resources Innovation Centre (ESRIC) and global satellite communications company SES to review the commercialization status and investment potential of the space industry.
It will also examine cases of digital transformation in capital markets. Through a seminar involving the Luxembourg Stock Exchange and HSBC, it will check the use of digital bonds and financial infrastructure based on distributed ledger technology (DLT).
It will then hold a joint seminar with deep-tech startup support center Technoport to discuss the commercialization status of new technologies and deep-tech investment opportunities in Europe.
Sungyup Hwang said AI, digital finance and the space industry are new core growth areas. He said he hopes the visit will help the securities industry read the flow of global innovation and identify future opportunities.
