Ireland considers crypto safeguards to tackle financial risks

Ireland plans to introduce criteria for accepting the source of funds linked to cryptocurrencies by the second half of 2027, aiming to counter their use in money laundering and terrorist financing. The finance ministry said digital assets carry very significant risks in those areas. Ireland’s latest risk assessment also noted an increase in money laundering prosecutions and said criminal groups view crypto-enabled fraud as especially attractive.

He pointed to institutional adoption, expanding real-world use and a larger gathering. Ripple President Monica Long called Swell 2026 the company’s biggest event, with multiple tracks. David Schwartz said sessions will focus on XRP and XRP Ledger use cases, including payments and tokenisation.
