Samsung Electronics, SK hynix surge triggers KOSPI buy sidecar
South Korea\'s KOSPI jumped more than 5 percent on Aug. 20 as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix surged, triggering a so-called buy sidecar that temporarily halts program buy orders. The Korea Exchange said program buy orders in the main board market were suspended for 5 minutes from 9:57:10 a.m. The trigger came as KOSPI 200 futures rose 5.10 percent.

South Korea\'s benchmark KOSPI climbed more than 3 percent on Aug. 12 to 6,579.04, helped by heavy foreign buying concentrated in chip heavyweights such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. A buy sidecar was triggered during trading, halting program buy orders for five minutes. Foreign investors were net buyers of 2.8357 trillion won, while individuals sold 3.1920 trillion won. The won weakened to 1,416.70 per dollar.
