Vice Minister Ku meets young researchers to discuss R&D environment, better treatment for graduate students

Ku Hyeok-chae (구혁채), first vice minister of South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT, met young researchers to discuss ways to improve the research environment. The ministry said he met youth aides and the third group of its 2030 Youth Advisory Panel in Seoul on Oct. 2 and exchanged views on the current state of the science and technology community and future development directions. Participants discussed creating an R&D environment that does not fear failure and improving conditions for graduate students.

Kakao steps up AI ethics governance, launches external advisory panel

Kakao said on Wednesday it has launched an external advisory panel under its AI and technology ethics subcommittee to strengthen its AI ethics governance. The move aims to pre-empt potential social risks from the spread of agentic AI and to establish internal policies in line with fast-changing domestic and international environments, including Korea’s AI basic law and global AI safety regulation. The panel consists of seven external experts spanning academia, law and an international organisation.

FSC launches private advisory panel to counter AI security threats, to review network segmentation

South Korea\'s Financial Services Commission on Sunday launched a private-sector technical advisory panel to respond to security threats linked to high-performance artificial intelligence. The panel held its first meeting with officials from the Financial Supervisory Service and the Financial Security Institute. It will review expected risks, policy and institutional measures, and steps to strengthen security frameworks, including detailed reviews of easing network segmentation rules. It will also assess financial firms\' readiness for AI security testing.
