Broadcasting Media Communications Committee releases 2024 broadcast assessment; KBS1, MBN top scores by platform
South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media Communications Committee approved the 2024 broadcast assessment results for 371 stations operated by 153 broadcasters at a plenary meeting on July 22. The results will be reflected in broadcaster re-licensing and re-approval reviews. KBS1 recorded the highest score among national terrestrial TV channels, while MBN ranked top among comprehensive programming channel operators. The committee also approved the 2025 assessment basic plan and will disclose detailed results on its website.

Upbit volume rise limited despite 8 percent intraday KOSPI plunge
South Korea\'s KOSPI fell more than 8 percent intraday and triggered a circuit breaker, but trading volumes at Upbit, the country\'s largest crypto exchange, rose only slightly. Bitcoin volume increased over July 12 to 14, yet remained below the 30-day average and far under a recent peak. Analysts said the rise did not signal a new trading phase and it is still hard to conclude stock funds moved into crypto.

Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are locked in a dispute over which is the top stock on South Korea\'s KOSPI by market capitalisation. SK hynix briefly moved ahead of Samsung in common-share market value on June 22, seen as a first change in 25 years and 7 months. Samsung countered that it remains No. 1 when preferred shares are included, warning that excluding them could confuse investors.
