SK Broadband said on Sunday it will air the first episode of Season 2 of "Great Uncle: Birth of a Local Hero," a programme it co-produced with Verymedia and Yonhap News TV JOB.

"Great Uncle" is named after "samchon," a term referring to rural, fishing and mountain villages. It covers stories of young chief executives who settle in regions and take on new business challenges.

Season 2 introduces, across 6 episodes, the start-up journeys of young people who chose regions as their base of life amid local extinction and youth job shortages, and cases of regional co-prosperity. Comedian Nam Hee-seok (남희석) and announcer Oh Young-sil (오영실) provided narration.

Key participants include Kim Hyun-hee (김현희), head of Ostrich Land, who raises ostriches in Goseong, South Gyeongsang Province and dreams of a "Korean version of Jurassic Park". They also include Do Won-woo (도원우) and Kim I-rin (김이린), heads of Replace, who turned a traditional house left unattended for 20 years in Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province into a space with annual sales of 1 billion won. Another is Ahn Eun-jin (안은진), head of Anikong, who is challenging exports of K-pet food in Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province.

The programme also covers Son In-jun (손인준), head of Greenbiz, who runs beekeeping and an experience centre in Aewol, Jeju. It also features Kim Beom-seok (김범석), head of Hwirok, who raises elk deer in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province and develops new velvet antler products. Another story follows Ahn Ju-hee (안주희), head of Yeolilchange, who makes granola using vegetables with low marketability in Gujwa, Jeju.

The programme will air from Sunday through Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. on weekdays on B tv cable channel 1, "ch B tv," and on Living TV and Yonhap News TV JOB.

Park In-seo (박인서), head of SK Broadband's cable broadcasting business, said, "In the reality where local extinction, youth outflow and job shortages are worsening, we wanted to find a ray of hope." He said the choices and journeys of young people who settled in regions would resonate with those living through an uncertain future.
