South Korea’s three mobile carriers will activate special network measures ahead of a fireworks festival in Seoul’s Yeouido area on Sept. 5 to cope with large crowds and a surge in traffic. SK Telecom plans AI-based traffic forecasting and added fixed and temporary facilities, including mobile base stations. KT will expand nearby base station capacity, deploy mobile stations and use 5G network slicing to support CCTV feeds, while running a 24-hour response system. LG Uplus will add equipment and use its AI platform to manage overloads.

KT steps up special measures for fireworks festival, expands Yeouido network capacity
KT said on Tuesday it has prepared special communications measures to provide stable service as visitor numbers rise for a fireworks festival on Sept. 5. The company checked network quality along key routes around Yeouido Hangang Park and nearby subway stations and expanded base-station capacity in advance. It will run a 24-hour response system on the day and deploy more staff. KT will also support organiser CCTV transmissions using 5G network slicing.

Baemin lowers barriers for foreign tourists using delivery app
Baemin is moving to improve its service for foreign tourists as language and payment barriers are cited as obstacles to attracting overseas visitors. Operator Woowa Brothers said it signed an MOU with the Seoul Metropolitan Government on Aug. 5 to promote gourmet tourism and revitalise the local economy. Baemin will upgrade functions and the city will handle promotion and on-site guidance, including an August campaign at Yeouido and Ttukseom Hangang parks.
