KT said on Tuesday it has prepared special communications measures to provide stable service in response to an expected rise in visitors to a fireworks festival on Sept. 5.

KT checked communications quality along key movement routes, including around Yeouido Hangang Park and nearby subway stations, and expanded capacity at surrounding base stations in advance. It also deployed additional mobile base stations to secure network capacity.

On the day of the event, it will run a 24-hour response system centered on a comprehensive control room. It will also increase on-site and support staff compared with usual levels to respond to sharp spikes in communications traffic or unusual situations.

KT will also support the organiser's CCTV video transmissions using 5G network slicing technology. 5G network slicing is a technology that splits a single 5G network into multiple segments to provide stable communications quality for specific services.

Jeong Seon-il (정선일), an executive vice president and head of the Network Operations Innovation Headquarters in KT's network division, said, "The fireworks festival is a representative event where large-scale traffic is concentrated over a short period of time." He added, "We will do our utmost in network operations so spectators can use communications services smoothly."
