Robotaxis to begin test runs in Kazakhstan in 2027 under inDrive, Pony.ai, Nvidia tie-up

Ride-hailing platform inDrive will work with Chinese autonomous driving firm Pony.ai and Nvidia to start robotaxi test runs in Kazakhstan in the first half of 2027, beginning in the capital Astana. The companies plan to link Pony.ai robotaxis to inDrive’s app, with Nvidia providing AI technology including its Hyperion platform and Halos safety system. Tests will start with safety operators onboard, with a long-term goal of fully driverless operation.

Tesla begins Cybercab display in China, rules out sales and commercial robotaxi operations

Tesla is publicly showing its Cybercab in China for the first time but drew a line under any link to local sales or commercial operations of a driverless ride-hailing service. The display begins on Sept. 17 and runs at venues in Beijing and Shanghai through late September. Tesla said the event is to present the product’s design and technology concept, noting the two-seat vehicle lacks a steering wheel and pedals and cannot be registered for consumer sale.

Zurich airport starts Level 4 driverless shuttle service

Zurich airport has begun operating Level 4 autonomous electric shuttle buses without a driver or onboard safety officer. The vehicles run inside the airport while a remote control center monitors operations in real time. The airport is using two WeRide electric robobuses and calls it an early European airport case of adopting such Level 4 vehicles in real operations. Initial trials run without passengers and will continue through year-end.
