GM\'s secret weapon to lower EV prices: battery development time cut in half

General Motors has built a battery cell development centre at its Warren campus in Michigan to help lower electric vehicle prices. The facility is designed to validate lab-developed cells ahead of mass production and optimise manufacturing processes. GM plans to speed development and cut costs as battery packs account for 30 to 40 percent of total EV cost. The centre will first pilot lithium manganese-rich prismatic cells, with test production in the fourth quarter and mass production planned for 2028.
