Ford bets $2 billion to convert U.S. gasoline plant into EV factory

Ford is moving to expand electric-vehicle production in the United States despite reduced EV support and industry restructuring. It is investing $2 billion in Kentucky’s Louisville Assembly Plant to convert a 3 million square foot internal combustion production site into an EV-only factory under its Universal EV project. Ford plans to build a new mid-sized electric truck, the Fathom, there, with prototypes due in 2027.

China\'s EV export push puts U.S., Japan automakers on alert

Chinese automakers are rapidly expanding in overseas markets such as Southeast Asia and Latin America to avoid high U.S. tariff barriers, an analysis said. Cleantechnica said incumbents that are slow to shift to electric vehicles could lose overseas sales bases and see long-term competitiveness weaken. IEA data showed China\'s EV exports topped 2.5 million in 2025, while Southeast Asia\'s EV imports exceeded 300,000, mostly from China.

Ford to launch Fadom electric pickup in 2027, cut parts and boost assembly speed 40 percent

Ford will begin mass-producing its midsize electric pickup Fadom in early 2027 and sell it from $28,350. The model will be the first vehicle on Ford\'s new Universal EV platform and is slated for production in the first quarter at the Louisville Assembly Plant. Ford plans to revamp production by building the vehicle in three zones and using large aluminum castings, cutting parts sharply and raising assembly speed by 40 percent.
