IMEC 6G chip platform draws attention as Nvidia eyes telecoms as next AI frontier

IMEC has unveiled results from a new chip platform aimed at easing cost and scalability issues seen as key variables in the spread of 6G, drawing attention as Nvidia has repeatedly pointed to telecommunications as AI’s next growth frontier. The development is linked to an industry push to make radio access networks operate like AI computers. Nvidia has moved aggressively in telecoms, including a $1 billion investment to secure a 2.9 percent stake in Nokia and efforts to build an AI-native platform for 6G.

KISA researcher Choi Hyun-ah elected to UN Internet Governance Forum advisory body

Choi Hyun-ah (최현아), a senior researcher at the Korea Internet & Security Agency, was elected to the Multistakeholder Advisory Group of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum. The forum is an annual UN conference launched in 2006 that brings together governments, the private sector, civil society and international organisations to discuss internet development and global public policy issues. Choi will take part in agenda and programme planning for the 21st meeting in Kenya in December.

South Korea declares \'global AI hub\' vision with nine international organisations

South Korea announced a \'Global AI Hub\' vision with nine major international organisations and released a joint statement on May 21. The initiative aims to use artificial intelligence to address shared global challenges including climate crisis, health, food and refugees. The government held a launch event in Seoul with the organisations and five multilateral development banks. Participants plan working groups, phased implementation plans and ongoing communication channels.
