Naver proposed using AI and digital tools such as Naver Works and Papago Plus for collaboration among national networks of the UN Global Compact (UNGC).

Naver said on Sept. 30 that its CEO Choi Soo-yeon (최수연) attended a UNGC board meeting held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Sept. 19 local time.

The meeting was attended by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UNGC Executive Director Sanda Ojiambo, among others, to discuss the role of companies in sustainable development.

During the visit, Choi presented the potential use of Naver's digital and AI solutions to support collaboration across UNGC's global networks. They include Naver Cloud's collaboration platform Naver Works and the AI-based interpretation and translation service Papago Plus.

The UNGC is a corporate sustainability initiative with about 25,000 companies and institutions participating in more than 100 countries worldwide. It supports corporate sustainability management based on 10 principles across four areas: human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

Naver plans to review the potential for cooperation using AI and digital technology for the UNGC headquarters, about 70 country networks and participating small and medium-sized enterprises. It will further discuss specific forms of cooperation and timing, focusing on ways to improve cross-country communication and work efficiency.

The proposal is linked to UNGC's "2026-2030 strategy". Naver believes collaboration and interpretation and translation tools could be used in the process of connecting companies' sustainability activities to actual implementation stages.

"To expand UNGC activities, an efficient collaboration system that lowers barriers between countries and regions is needed," Choi said. "I hope Naver's AI and digital technology will help local networks with digital transformation and global communication."

Choi was appointed as a UNGC board member in September last year, the first Korean to be selected in 17 years. Her term is three years, and she is taking part in activities related to responsible technology development, global digital cooperation and the spread of a sustainable management ecosystem.
