China\'s big three telecom firms bet on \'token factory\' strategy as AI revenue grows
China’s three state-owned telecom operators are expanding AI token-charging businesses as a new growth pillar, the South China Morning Post reported. China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom highlighted tokens, the basic unit of data handled by AI models, alongside computing power and data as key indicators, but did not disclose separate token revenue or usage metrics. Each operator reported growth in computing- and AI-related revenue and introduced token platforms and products.

Alibaba unveils HappyHorse 1.0 AI video generation model, tops global leaderboard
Alibaba Group has developed an AI video generation model called HappyHorse 1.0, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday. The model has ranked first since its launch on third-party site Artificial Analysis’ text-to-video conversion leaderboard, the report said. A spokesperson for Alibaba’s newly established AI-focused unit Token Hub said HappyHorse is in internal beta testing and an API will be released soon.

Tokens emerge as new resource in AI era as China gains an edge
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (젠슨 황) has identified “tokens” as a core resource in the AI era, signalling a shift in how technology competition is measured. Nvidia has described tokens as the standard product made in an “AI factory,” meaning the minimum unit of data that AI models process or generate, not cryptocurrency. Huang likened tokens to oil, predicting output, price and efficiency will shape competitiveness. China is pursuing a power-plus-computing strategy to lower token production costs.
