April crypto hacking losses top $600 million, worst since February 2025
Crypto protocol hacking losses have surged in April, putting decentralised finance security risks back in focus. Blockchain outlet BeInCrypto reported losses topping $606.2 million in 18 days, the biggest monthly total since February 2025 and well above the $165.5 million recorded in the first quarter. KelpDAO and Drift Protocol accounted for most of the damage. DeFi total value locked fell after the KelpDAO hack, and analysts warned of broader impacts on trust and valuations.

Drift $285 million hack sparks dispute over Circle USDC freeze authority
A $285 million hack of Drift has fuelled debate over whether Circle should have acted more aggressively to block fund movements, CoinDesk reported on Thursday. Blockchain security firm PeckShield said the attacker stole about $71 million in USDC, converted most assets into USDC and used Circle\'s cross-chain transfer protocol to move $232 million worth of USDC from Solana to Ethereum, complicating recovery efforts.

DeFi lending protocol Aave expands to OKX Ethereum Layer2 X Layer
DeFi lending protocol Aave has started offering its service on OKX’s Ethereum Layer2 blockchain X Layer, Cointelegraph reported on March 30. The integration allows X Layer and OKX Wallet users to deposit, lend, borrow and access yield features on Aave within the same network without bridging assets to other chains. X Layer, launched in 2024, has about $25 million in total value locked, while Aave has $23.5 billion.
