Giorgio Zinetti, chief technology officer of the Cardano Foundation, will step down at the end of this month.
Cryptopolitan, a blockchain outlet, reported on Aug. 10 that Zinetti said he will leave the Cardano Foundation effective Aug. 31.
Zinetti announced on X, formerly Twitter, that he is resigning after about 2 years and 6 months. "At the end of August, I will step down from my role as CTO of the Cardano Foundation," he said. "I’m proud of what we built together, and above all I’m grateful to the people I worked with." He added that he plans to take a break for a few weeks to welcome his daughter and then start a new journey in September.
Zinetti joined the Cardano Foundation in 2024 and led an expansion of the foundation’s projects and products, focusing in particular on growing the enterprise ecosystem. The Cardano Foundation also formalised Zinetti’s departure in a separate post, and a successor has not yet been decided.
The foundation plans to maintain its existing roadmap after Zinetti leaves. It said the board and management will work with senior leaders in technology and business development to keep focusing on expanding enterprise adoption.
The personnel change also coincides with other recent organisational changes in the Cardano ecosystem. The Cardano Foundation, a Swiss non-profit organisation, is responsible for Cardano’s development, while Input Output Global (IOG) and Emurgo operate as separate organisations to support operations and growth. IOG is a development organisation led by Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson, and Emurgo is responsible for the commercial sector.
Earlier in July, Emurgo said it would step down from its role as a member of a Cardano governance group. The decision came after Emurgo’s wallet, SecondFi, was exploited and $2.4 million worth of ADA was leaked. With one of the main support organisations stepping back from a governance role and the foundation’s CTO also set to leave, market attention could increasingly focus on continuity in Cardano’s operations.
Market reaction remains limited. Cardano ranks 29th among chains by total value locked, DeFiLlama data shows. DeFi TVL stands at $69.62 million across 69 protocols. ADA was trading above $0.1920, and its market capitalisation was $7.16 billion.
There are 2 key points to watch. The first is when the Cardano Foundation will name a successor CTO. The second is whether it can keep its enterprise adoption-focused strategy steady under the existing board and technical leadership structure. In particular, how the foundation organises the division of roles during the vacancy is expected to draw renewed attention to the structure of cooperation among organisations in the ecosystem.
After 2.5 years, I’ll be stepping down as CTO of the Cardano Foundation at the end of August. Time really flew. I’m proud of what we built, but even more grateful for the people I got to work with along the way. First, a few weeks off to welcome our daughter ❤️ Then a new…
