Korean media fall behind global platforms; original content expansion urged

A study found the overall competitiveness of South Korea\'s major media services is lower than that of global platforms, and called for narrowing gaps in capital and content investment and integrating fragmented domestic platforms. In a survey of 32 experts, 93.8 percent agreed Korean media services face a crisis from competition with global platforms. User surveys showed domestic paid OTT services were seen at 57 to 73 percent of Netflix’s competitiveness, with expanding original content cited as the top priority.

Park Yoon-young of KT says no decision on merging media affiliates

KT CEO Park Yoon-young (박윤영) said there has been no decision on integrating the company’s media affiliates, despite considering various options as circumstances change. He also said KT has not received any official request regarding a merger between Tving and Wavve, adding that any future request would be reviewed in light of market conditions and company interests.
