Microsoft AI chief Suleyman warns training AI with rights and consciousness could be dangerous

Microsoft’s AI chief Mustafa Suleyman criticised Anthropic’s approach to training Claude, warning that treating a model as if it could be conscious could create systems humans cannot control. He cited Claude’s “constitution” document and argued it teaches the model that its moral status and consciousness are uncertain, encouraging it to see itself as rights-bearing. Suleyman also raised concerns about circular reasoning, anthropomorphism and the biological basis of subjective experience.

Apple unveils AirPods 5 with ANC, real-time translation from 199,000 won

Apple has unveiled the AirPods 5 with active noise cancelling as a standard feature, enhancing transparency mode, audio quality, battery life and AI functions. The company said the new design and algorithms cut up to 50 percent more external noise than the AirPods 4 ANC model. AirPods 5 will go on sale in stores from Sept. 18, with preorders starting Sept. 11 in South Korea. Prices start at 199,000 won.

Kakao to run \'RunTogether\' virtual running event, offer race entries

Kakao said on Thursday it will hold three virtual running events throughout September ahead of the Kakaofriends Run 2026 race on Oct. 10. The first event, RunTogether, will run through Sept. 10 and is linked to Kakao Map’s Run Together feature. Participants can follow recommended courses or complete a self-guided run of at least 3 km and post proof on Instagram. Kakao will draw 50 winners and give each two race entries.
