The U.S. government sold Anthropic stakes seized from Caroline Ellison and Nishad Singh, figures tied to the FTX collapse, to existing investors, but did not disclose the sale timing, buyers or price. It has not been decided whether the proceeds will go to compensate FTX victims or be retained by the government. Anthropic’s surging valuation has heightened interest in the sale, while lawyers and victims cite uncertainty over how much could reach victims.

Live shopping platform Whatnot raised $545 million in a Series G round, winning a valuation of $20 billion. CNBC reported on Aug. 7 that its valuation nearly doubled in less than a year. Iconiq, Lightspeed and Avra led the round. The company said more than 650,000 new users join weekly and it has already surpassed last year’s $8 billion gross merchandise volume. Buyer numbers more than doubled over the past year.
