U.S. defence technology startup Anduril, led by Oculus founder Palmer Luckey (팔머 럭키), is conducting a new funding round targeting a $60 billion valuation, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.
The round is being led by Thrive Capital and Andreessen Horowitz, with Lux Capital and Founders Fund also expected to participate.
Anduril raised $3 billion in a Series G round in June last year, giving it a $30 billion valuation. Bloomberg reported it is also being suggested that the company could raise as much as $8 billion at double the valuation in just 1 year.
The funding round is drawing attention as it comes amid moves by the U.S. government to tighten regulation of defence startups. A contract dispute recently arose between AI company Anthropic and the U.S. Department of Defense, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth designated Anthropic as a supply-chain risk company. In that context, Luckey backed the government’s position, arguing that "even an imperfect constitutional republic is better than billionaires and corporations taking control of power."
Anduril is also accelerating efforts to expand AI-based defence solutions beyond defence technology development. According to Luckey in a blog post, Anduril plans to speed up development of autonomous weapons systems and AI military technology.
