RISC-V architecture-based open-source chip design startup SiFive raised $400 million in a Series G round, SiliconANGLE reported on Thursday.
The round valued SiFive at $3.65 billion.
Atreides Management led the round, with participation from Nvidia and enterprise technology investor Apollo. SiFive's cumulative external funding has exceeded $760 million.
Founded in 2015 by the creators of RISC-V, SiFive sells ready-to-use RISC-V processor designs that help customers move semiconductor projects forward quickly. Its product portfolio includes more than 12 CPU designs. They range from designs with automotive reliability features to designs for battery-powered connected devices and chips for data centres.
Its top-end design, Performance P870-D, enables the construction of server CPUs with up to 256 cores. It supports an interrupt controller, a data protection accelerator and cluster accelerator ports for connecting external processors. Cloud service providers can also integrate this CPU with custom graphics cards.
SiFive Chief Executive Patrick Little (패트릭 리틀) said hyperscaler customers are clearly asking it to accelerate open-standard alternatives for data centres. He said there is steady demand for customisable CPU solutions.
