Korea communications regulator waives TV licence fees for flood victims, cuts pay-TV bills

South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission will support residents in parts of Gyeongsang Province designated as special disaster zones after summer heavy rain. It will waive TV licence fees for two months for affected residents in some areas of Andong and Uiseong in North Gyeongsang Province. It plans similar action for parts of Geoje and Tongyeong in South Gyeongsang once damage tallies are completed. Pay-TV providers will also cut monthly fees by 50 percent for one month.

SK Broadband\'s AI 5 set-top box wins four major global design awards

SK Broadband said on Tuesday that its B tv \"AI 5 set-top box\" has won all four of the world\'s major design awards. The device received Japan\'s Good Design Award last year, followed by Germany\'s iF Design Award in March, the Red Dot Design Award in April and the U.S. IDEA Design Award main prize in August. SK Broadband highlighted its circular matte-black design, simplified exterior and adjustable LED brightness.

Telecoms tapped for Korea\'s \'AI for All\' project as infrastructure capability comes into focus

South Korea has completed the selection of operators for its government AI service project, \'AI for All\', aimed at the entire population. The Ministry of Science and ICT selected consortia led by SK Telecom and KT, and a Kakao-led group that includes LG Uplus. The ministry said evaluation focused on the ability to expand and operate the service, including infrastructure plans. The government will support 512 Nvidia B200 GPUs this year and plans additional cost support from next year.
