SK Broadband said on Tuesday it signed a memorandum of understanding with LS Marine Solution to strengthen the stability of subsea cables.

The agreement was designed to support stable operation of SJC2 (Southeast Asia-Japan Cable 2), a subsea cable linking Asian regions including South Korea, Japan and Singapore, and to enable rapid recovery when faults occur.

The two companies agreed to keep emergency response fleets and specialised equipment available at all times. They will also standardise technical data and recovery strategies in advance. This will link the full process from dispatch to the site through lifting, jointing and precise burial of the subsea cable to shorten recovery time when faults occur.

They will intensively manage shallow-water coastal sections off Busan where faults could occur. Access by large vessels is restricted in the area, requiring specialised marine technology and rapid on-site response when a fault occurs.

SK Broadband will provide route analysis data and monitoring capabilities accumulated around its Busan landing station. LS Marine Solution will handle emergency on-site recovery work based on its experience operating specialised work fleets and its diving and construction expertise.

Sung Jin-soo (성진수), head of SK Broadband's Network Center, said SJC2 is a global data network hub linking Asia and South Korea. He said the cooperation will strengthen the stability of coastal sections to provide the best service.
