ETRI launches development of core 6G AI-RAN technologies

Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) is moving ahead with research and development to secure core technologies for AI-RAN, an AI-based radio access network technology. The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information and Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation began the AI-RAN Global Leading Project in April 2026 and designated ETRI as a national specialized research institute. The project runs to December 2030 with 47 billion won in R&D funding.

Science ministry says proton accelerator reaches 40,000 hours of cumulative operation

A 100-megaelectronvolt-class linear proton accelerator operated by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute in Gyeongju has reached 40,000 cumulative operating hours over 13 years since its first run in 2013 without a single safety accident, the Ministry of Science and ICT said. The facility supports radiation-environment testing for semiconductors and other applications. Operations expanded to a 24-hour service system from September 2024, and it supported 353 people and 210 experiments last year.

KB Securities raises 2026 KOSPI target to 10,500, citing AI-led earnings gains

KB Securities raised its 2026 KOSPI target to 10,500 from 7,500, a 40 percent increase, citing faster corporate earnings improvement driven by expanding artificial intelligence investment. It estimated 2026 KOSPI operating profit at 919 trillion won, triple from the previous year, and projected combined operating profit at Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to rise sharply through 2027. It limited the likelihood of a bubble collapse in the short term.
