Rivian CEO to lay out strategy beyond EVs with robots and autonomous driving
Rivian is seeking to expand into the mass market by leading with the launch of its mid-priced electric SUV, the R2, while also widening its business into autonomous driving, charging infrastructure and humanoid robots. TechCrunch reported that CEO RJ Scaringe will explain the rationale and manufacturing lessons behind the strategy at Disrupt 2026 in San Francisco in October. Rivian has also set a Level 4 autonomous-driving roadmap and is building a charging network in the United States.

Tesla, Rivian and General Motors are cited as major automakers that still do not support Apple’s in-car interface CarPlay. All three maintain positions that exclude or limit CarPlay, emphasising their own vehicle software strategies. Tesla has not officially supported CarPlay, though reports have suggested development work. Rivian executives have repeatedly said there are no plans to add it. GM has defended a decision to drop CarPlay from future EVs and to gradually reduce support more broadly.

The company said its $4,500 TM-B Launch Edition has begun shipping from the manufacturer to its U.S. warehouse, with all Launch Edition preorders set for delivery from next week through September. Also had blamed global supply chain pressure for delays and said it would not compromise on safety or quality.
