Kakao to hold \'Agentic Player 10\' competition to find AI services
Kakao said on Tuesday it will hold the \'Agentic Player 10\' competition to invigorate the agentic AI ecosystem and discover creative services. Services built by participants will run on KakaoTalk if their MCP servers advance to the top 20 teams, and will be shown to users via Kakao Tools. Entries are open through July 14. The top prize includes a science ministry award and 10 million won.

Kakao\'s PlayMCP supports integration with open-source AI OpenClaw
Kakao is expanding its open platform PlayMCP by supporting integration with the open-source AI agent OpenClaw, it said on Thursday. PlayMCP, based on the Model Context Protocol, allows developers to register and test MCP servers. The platform has Kakao services such as KakaoTalk, Tok Calendar, Kakao Map, Gifts and Melon, and about 200 external MCP servers. The integration adds OpenClaw to existing uses with Claude and ChatGPT and includes one-time token authentication.

Kakao is accelerating its shift to artificial intelligence in the second term of CEO Jeong Shin-a, after a first phase focused on restructuring affiliates and governance. The company is redefining KakaoTalk as an AI-based execution platform and expanding external partnerships and global business initiatives. Kakao has set targets for revenue growth and profitability and plans shareholder returns. Investors remain focused on when and how AI monetisation will show up in earnings.
