Yoo Yong-ha, a Kakao performance leader, explains how to build 'AI for Everyone' in this photo provided by Kakao.

Kakao set a goal of officially launching its 'AI for Everyone' service by the end of this year, which it is developing with 34 companies and institutions, and securing 5 million monthly active users (MAU). It plans to build it as a service that goes beyond simple Q&A to real tasks such as search, lookup and reservations.

Kakao on Oct. 14 held a session at 'if(kakao)26' titled 'If you gather good AI, does it become AI for everyone?: How Kakao makes "AI for Everyone"' and unveiled the service structure and its future roadmap.

Yoo Yong-ha (유용하), a Kakao performance leader overseeing the product in the consortium, said the company plans to differentiate the service through an experience that South Koreans frequently seek in daily life and that can handle real requests well.

◆ Access via KakaoTalk and web...from conversation to using real services

'AI for Everyone' is being developed as a service that users can access via KakaoTalk or use on a separate web page.

Users will be able to refine conditions through conversation without having to choose tools from the start or write requests as fully formed sentences.

For example, if a user asks, "Is there an exhibition I can go to with my child?" the service can narrow down options through additional dialogue about dates, travel distance and companion conditions. It also plans to support a flow that moves on to finding nearby restaurants, comparing candidates and making reservations.

In the process, it keeps context such as schedules and number of people set in earlier conversations, reducing the need to re-enter the same information. Before moving into actual execution such as making reservations, it rechecks conditions and amounts with the user.

The execution functions will be offered on a limited basis in the initial beta service and will then be upgraded in stages.

◆ 34 companies and institutions participate...connecting expert AI and tools

Kakao is cooperating with a total of 34 companies and institutions, including 15 consortium members and 19 alliance members, to build 'AI for Everyone'.

Kakao will be responsible for the foundation that manages the service and AI work flow, while LG Uplus will handle AI models and graphics processing unit (GPU) operations. LG AI Research Institute will provide its in-house AI model, EXAONE.

Based on homegrown AI models such as Kakao's Kanana and EXAONE, Kakao plans to connect each participant's expert AI, data and tools, as well as homegrown AI semiconductors, to the service.

It is also establishing common standards so different services and agents can work together by exchanging information on delegable tasks and authorities and processing status.

Kakao will also expand participation by outside companies and developers. Domain knowledge will be linked through specialist AI agents, while functions such as search, lookup and reservations will be connected in the form of tools.

Kakao plans to provide some of the roughly 500 tools registered on 'PlayMCP' to 'AI for Everyone' after verification and screening. It will also provide operational information such as usage of tools registered by developers and, in the long term, plans to create a structure in which usage performance leads to revenue.

◆ Launch by year-end, targets 5 million MAU...2027 'one agent per person'

'AI for Everyone' will first go through beta testing and then expand its user base in stages. Kakao set a target of 5 million MAU along with an official launch by the end of this year.

During the beta period, it will use service performance indicators including not only the number of users but also return visits, maintenance of conversational context and the degree to which user-requested tasks are completed.

From 2027, it will also introduce personal agents for each user in stages.

In the 'one agent per person' format, users set desired roles and work methods through conversation, and the agent performs tasks based on allowed memory, work order and steps that require user confirmation.

For example, if a user requests an agent to support creating a health management plan and booking health checkups, the service would set necessary roles and permissions and connect related specialist agents and tools.

Kakao plans to expand agent technology and operating experience validated in daily life into personal work support, and in the long term broaden its scope to organizations and industries.

Yoo, the performance leader, said the company will start by gathering good AI and build it into 'AI for Everyone' so even people unfamiliar with AI can get necessary tasks done.
