Kakao is moving to expand its ecosystem by linking an open-source artificial intelligence (AI) agent to its open platform PlayMCP.
Kakao said on Thursday that PlayMCP, an open platform based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), supports integration with the open-source AI agent OpenClaw.
PlayMCP is a platform where developers can freely register and test MCP servers (tools). It currently has Kakao services including KakaoTalk's chat with myself, Tok Calendar, Kakao Map, Gifts and Melon, as well as about 200 external MCP servers.
With the integration, servers registered on PlayMCP now have broader uses, adding OpenClaw to Claude and ChatGPT. OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent that users install and run directly on a local computer. When instructed in natural language through a messenger platform channel, it can attach external tools to the agent to automate repetitive tasks.
As a result, users can directly use servers stored in the PlayMCP toolbox through OpenClaw. Integration is completed by consenting to provide data for the linkage and then pasting the generated connection prompt text into the OpenClaw chat window.
It also strengthened security. It used a "one-time token" valid for 10 minutes after issuance during the integration process to prevent exposure of authentication information. Connected OpenClaw can be immediately disconnected through the PlayMCP settings menu.
You Yong-ha (유용하), performance leader of Kakao AI Connect, said, "PlayMCP aims for openness that allows MCP developers to connect the servers they built with various AI services to test and expand." He added, "We hope integration with OpenClaw will make it possible to conveniently use various tools, including Kakao services, by connecting them to an agent."
